New The Surge Trailer shows off sweet robot fighting action
Rockum Sockum Good

The latest brainchild from Deck13 looks pretty damn sick. If you haven't seen the latest trailer yet then don't worry because I’ve linked it below this paragraph (you're welcome). The Surge, an action packed RPG that will feel familiar while still feeling brand new, follows the story of Warren who is having the worst first day on the job ever. You see Warren works for a mega company called CREO which is trying to reverse the terrible damage that humanity has plunged itself into by healing the planet through its products. Something has gone wrong though and now, after being fused into a bionic super suit that looks more like a Goliath made of an old go-kart, Warren must survive as he makes his way throughout an environment that is actively trying to kill him. Robotic security, bionic coworkers, and tech run amok are just a few of the many challenges that you will have to face in The Surge.

Now, to me at least, this game feels very familiar. The dystopian, arid landscape reminded me a lot of Rage or even Borderlands while the visceral, in your face battles and the feeling of helpless terror that surrounds the game itself reminds me a lot of Dead Space. The gameplay trailers I’ve seen, plus the first 22 minutes of the game (available here if you'd like to take a look), seems to draw heavily on many influences and it appears to be an amazing amalgamation. When I read the words “Action RPG in Dystopian Landscape” I’m already on board but this game just looks fun.

Let's start with this unique looting system for one. The ability to upgrade your character by “Slicing specific limbs off your enemies in battle, then equipping the weapons or armor you dismember!” sounds amazing. The ability to literally make your enemies greatest strength their weakness is very cool and the tight cornered battles look amazingly fast paced and will keep players on their toes until the credits roll.

I can't wait to get my hands on The Surge and if you can't either then pre-orders for the game are already available. Look for The Surge May 16 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Visit the official website for more info.
