In what has become the media with the most consecutive numbers behind it since the Land Before Time series, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has finalized its features and announced its launch date. Mario Kart 8, released back in May 2017 for the Wii U, has been ported over to the Switch instead of just making a new one; which has long been the industry's go-to position. The highly anticipated port will launch April 28th, 2017 on the Switch with a slew of new features and upgraded controls which will support the joy-Con controllers.
The list of new features for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also pretty impressive:
The ability to play in tabletop mode using two joy-Con controllers (as mentioned above)
4 player split screen capability
The original cast of racers with the addition of many new racers including Inkling Girl and Inkling boy from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Junior for a whopping 42 racer roster
Three new vehicles including 2 Splatoon inspired vehicles
The ability to carry two items at once (Two blue shells please!) and the addition of new items such as Boo (which allows for item stealing) and the feather (high jump capability)
48 courses including the DLC tracks (no new tracks yet, though)
The addition of the new Smart Streeting which helps keep players on track
New battle levels (Urchins Underpass) as well battle modes like Balloon battle, Bob-omb Blast, Shine Thief, Coin Roundup, and Renegade Roundup.
And New Amiibo Support including the ability to use new Amiibo’s from the Super Mario Series, Animal Crossing Series, and Splatoon Series.
With so much content crammed into one game, Mario Kart seems to have cemented its dynasty as Nintendo’s go-to party game for years to come; at least until Mario Party comes out. I look forward to seeing what Nintendo has in store for us with the inevitable DLC’s and updated content but until then have fun racing for the checkered flag and stealing the win from Luigi just before he hits the finish line.
